What's your why?

Hello friend!

Last week I wrote about ways to get involved in fighting the anti-trans legislation sweeping state legislatures around the country.

As I write today, closing arguments are set to begin in the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd. The multiple mass shootings that have occurred over the past week, the overwhelming surge of hate crimes targeting AAPI people, and the recent murder of Duarte Wright are all on my mind. There is so much work to do to create a more just and equitable society, it can be tough to figure out where to focus our energy.

Over the next several weeks, I’m going to be discussing how to develop sustainable practices around creating social change, both within the organizations we lead, as well as on a larger, societal level.

First things first: What is your why?

What are you working toward? What are your reasons for doing this work?

Staying connected to your why is essential!

Really dig deep into your why. Whenever you’re feeling burnt out or discouraged (if you’re anything like me, lately, that is like… roughly 12 times a day, every day), you can come back to your why. It strengthens your resolve and renews your focus.

Finding your why is crucial to sustaining the deep, intensive work of making diversity and inclusion changes to your organization. I’d love to help you figure yours out. Let’s have a conversation about your why—reach out to my email below to set up a consult call and we can get started.

Fondly,
Cate
